SOMERVILLE- An investigation into Wednesday's bank robbery is continuing, Somerset County Prosecutor Michael H. Robertson said.
Franklin Township Police responded to an alarm activation at the Chase Bank on Elizabeth Avenue in the Somerset section of Franklin Township at 6 p.m.
Bank employees told police that a man approached a teller, handing them a note announcing the robbery while motioning toward his waistband as if he had a concealed weapon, authorities said.
He fled on foot with an undisclosed amount of currency. A description of the suspect was broadcast to surrounding law enforcement agencies by the Somerset County Communications Center, Robertson said.
He is described as a dark skinned black male, approximately 6-feet, 2-inches tall, with a muscular build, wearing a dark grey ski cap. Detectives have release a surveillance picture of the suspect, obtained from video footage.
Robertson said the robbery is under investigation by detectives from the Franklin Township Police Department and Somerset County Prosecutor's Office Major Crimes Unit with assistance from Special Agents from the FBI's Franklin Field Office.
Detectives are urging the public to report, but not approach, the suspect if they know who he is, or where he may be.
