A medical exam often is required in order to buy a life insurance policy, but if you’re in good health you have nothing to fear.
Generally, you won’t have to budget much time for your exam. A basic exam takes just 15 to 30 minutes and typically includes:
Height and weight measurements.
Collecting blood and urine samples.
Blood pressure check.
Medical questions.
A request for medical records.
In some cases, an insurer will require an EKG

Insurance companies go by risk. So they do a medical review. They do not take your word for medical data. There are increased prices for smoking, being too heavy, many types of illness that are detected by the medical review.

For the same reason a mortgage company makes you send financial documentation. They're assessing risk.

OH, it's not a checkup, it's an underwriting review. Since you're betting that you're going to die, and they're betting that you're going to live, they're looking for information to figure out how to calculate the odds - which is what the premiums vs. payouts are.
