You should have health insurance.

Why cant you go on spousal health plan, it is probably cheaper than an individual one. The penalty for no coverage is doubled in 2016.

Why do you think you need to pay it? They don't know if you have insurance or not.

It's better to get some insurance. Republicans tout personal responcibilty but run away when it's offered to them.

It's better to file jointly whether or not you'll incur a tax penalty. And with that joint income, I agree: you can afford health insurance.

You need to get healthcare. Your income is high enough to be able to afford it.
It's also high enough so you probably have some assets, a home? A car?
If something happens to you, you're on the hook for payment to the hospital.
Thousands of dollars, or maybe losing everything you have including your life because you want to take the chance of not needing it.
It's better not to be foolish with your future, hospital bills being what they are, the 'savings' of not having it and paying percentage of your income as a fine, is like gambling with the rent money.
