There are some states - Massachusetts comes immediately to mind - that doesn't allow insurance to discriminate based on gender. That means women pay the same as men for health insurance, car insurance, and life insurance, even though women have lower auto claims, live longer, and many more health expenses.
So as to "why" - I believe it's because people don't realize what the difference is between "equality" and "justice", and because they've lost sight of the true definition of discrimination in all the political correctness going around.

Men do pay more for car insurance especially males under 25. It is not discrimination under federal law. It is actuarial statistics because males are not as careful as women. But these days both young are reckless.

car insurance is based on the vehicle itself, where it is garaged, your driving record and number of moving violations you get, women may have better car insurance rates because they historically are safer drivers as a whole
as for health insurance women do have considerably more health issues than men and may be charged a higher rate than men but that is due to their potential health issues
if you are in the country your car insurance should be very low considering the lack of traffic, where your vehicle is stored and probably your driving record

Because it is car insurance not health insurance.
This has nothing to do with gender it has to do with risk factors.

Well I believe it should be equal. But the reason men's car insurance rates are so High is because it's statistically high for young male teens to race and DUI.

Kind of the same thing when libshits don't want people to prove who they are in before they vote for a president because they claim it makes it hard for poor people, but they want people to jump through hoops and pay a fee to get a firearms ID card to exercise their 2nd amendment rights.

Women cost more in the early years due to pregnancies, birth control and they get yearly checkups, but in the long run they don't because those check ups catch things early so they cost less to treat. While men don't and their later in life illnesses cost more to live with or correct because their problems have longer to stew.

Most city folk are also screwed because how poorly mass transit is designed. Most buses run both direction on a street rather than just having a simple grid pattern where bus go the op-site direction 1/2 a mile a part. This set up about a 3 block walk from a bus line at most & doubles the individuals served with the same assets.

Insurance underwriters should determine rates based on expected payouts. Young men have more expensive accidents, young woman have pregnancies and birth control cost. Women live longer so should get lower life insurance rates. People who have preexisting conditions shouldn't get good health insurance rates or health insurance at all, who would want to insure someone on kidney dialysis or chemo for cancer? But we have laws now with ACA saying they must pay for the high cost preexisting conditions we don't allow them to be charged several thousand a month or to jack up men's health insurance when they get to a higher heart attack age or knee replacement age.
