I was in a single car wreck coming from Tahoe. I was far from any family or friends and the roads were wet/snowy/icy on different parts and it was freezing and raining outside. I was also in shock as my car nearly rolled into the river. The EMT's and Sheriff asked me what my insurance was and told me i'd probably be covered for an ambulance ride. It was a long ride to the hospital and I waited there for a friend to pick me up. I just received a hefty $2500 bill in the mail for it and i am extremely anxious about it and what to do. I had the minimum liability insurance for my auto insurance and am under Medi-Cal health insurance.

Congrats on having the cheapest auto insurance and welfare for medical insurance...you now owe $2,500.

Call the hospital and tell them to send the bill to Medi-Cal. You should have told the ambulance that.

Call the ambulance company to find out if they submitted the bill to Medi-Cal. If not, then you have to submit it. Doubtful your liability will cover any of it, so anything left over after Medi-cal determines how much, if any, is covered is what you will owe. Note that no matter what the EMT or Sheriff told you, it has no bearing on how much you owe. You also should have received an Explanation of Benefits from Medi-Cal telling you how much was covered and what you owe. If not, then the ambulance company probably did not submit the bill.
In a worst case scenario, Medi-Cal covers none of it and you owe for the full $2,500. Next worse case is you pay the $2,500 and submit the bill and Medi-Cal covers some or all and sends you a check. Better case is the ambulance company gives you time to submit the bill and Medi-Cal pays what they pay and you pay the balance. Best case is that the bill and the submission crossed and that it has been submitted and Medi-Cal pays it all..

Since you had the minimum liability insurance, they will do nothing on your vehicle. But, it is possible you have medical payment coverage on your auto, and if so, they will pay for the ambulance and ER (up to) the limits of the med pay.
Submit the bill to Medi-Cal. Odds are they will pay. But, it is unclear if you used the ambulance to the hospital or used the ambulance to get you back home vs your friend picking you up. If friend did not show and you had the ambulance drive you home, then (no) won't pay the ride home, but the ride to the ER only.
