Homeowners insurance - hail damaged roof - effect future premiums??

So I had a couple roofers look at my house. Both said I had significant hail damage and instead of paying out of pocket, to claim in on my insurance. I planned on replacing my roof and selling my home. Will filing a claim on my current home, negatively impact my premiums on my future home? Thanks in advance for your help.

Yes, any claims you file at any property, will follow you at any other property, for a minimum of three years, and sometimes longer depending on circumstances.

I don't think it will affect it at all. Houses are not all affected equally and the new house will have a completely separate policy.

Why not have the insurance replace your roof? That's why you own insurance. You could also potentially claim the room for cash and sell the house without fixing the roof. Not saying it makes sense, but you technically could do that.

That paralegal has no CLUE (used intentionally) what she is talking about. The Comprehensive Loss Underwriting Exchange (aka CLUE) keeps records of all claims and would be searched by subsequent companies.
If roofers showed up in your neighborhood following a hail event, those guys are scammers. If you called roofers about having it replaced, different story. If you really have damage, that's why you have insurance. If more than $2-3k, put in the claim. Otherwise, pay for the damage out of pocket, that's my recommendation.

Home owner's insurance does not cover "acts of god". Just fix the damage
and pay out of pocket. Avoid the scam.
