UK Question - Is there a holiday insurance, that actually covers the holiday?

Recently got back from Italy with my daughter from a skiing holiday.
First day, she breaks her wrist - I cant snowboard without her, otherwise she's stuck in the hotel room on her own.
There's nothing to do in the village we were in
No kids clubs
....so the holiday is ruined.
Insurance will only pay out for the unused liftpasses and snowboard hire.
Yes it's in the small print that they won't cover the 'enjoyment of a holiday'
They also state that we used the hotel, and didnt need to change the flights.
So is there a way to cover the holiday, not just the expenses?

there is NO insurance to cover your enjoyment of the vacation, it only covers accidents and unforeseen problems, nothing about how much you enjoyed it

read the Money Super Market guide to insurance..
and what policies have 'Cancellation' cover ... and how much.

That said, do NOT expect it to be cheap....
Even in your situation, you may have been able to negotiate early return
(reducing Hotel costs etc)

No. How would that even work? For example: you are with your boyfriend and you find out he is cheating, so you break up. It's the same type of scenario and the insurance company wouldn't be responsible.
You selected this area/resort and having a kids club or other activities wasn't a requirements. What if your daughter simply didn't want to ski/snowboard every day would the insurance company have been responsible then also?

What is the price of the holiday otherwise??? How can you put a value on the "enjoyment?" That's the issue here. You were reimbursed for your ACTUAL EXPENSES...you don't get reimbursed for spending time with your daughter...

Not that I know of.
They wil say they covered your lost expenses and medical costs.
Skiing is a risk. Next tile chose a resort with more facilities.

An insurance will normally just cover tangible losses, and won't compensate for intangible things like "loss of enjoyment". It might have been possible to abort the holiday and in that case get some money back that could have been spent on another holiday, but most insurances would only allow that if there was a major problem that prevented you continuing the holiday.

When you say covers the holiday do you mean flights and hotels?
If so, NO!! Once you get on the plane and sleep in the hotel then you haven't lost anything.

Totally agree with them. You were able to use the hotel and flights. Travel insurance is to protect you from the cost of things you can't use do to a covered situation. You got a refund on the parts you couldn't use. It sucks, but you're not out money so the insurance did its job.
Was she wearing wrist guards? Those are important. I know.
