How long does a claim take and do i pay the $500 upfront or do they take it out of my claim thank you

Your renters insurance will not cover any of the cars equipment only personal property. Make a list of all items stolen including cost paid for them, secure a copy of the police report and print any photos of the items you may have and take all of this to your State Farm Agent and discuss the claim. He/She can explain the claims procedure and give you an idea of what is covered and how much you can expect to receive. You figure the total amount of covered loss ie $1000- $500 deductible and you would receive the remaining $500. If the total amount covered is $500 or less you would receive 0.

If you have a $500 deductible on your renters insurance, thats how much you have to pay before anything is paid to you. When you file a claim, the form will be clear about the value of the items you have to list.

First, check your policy. Renters insurance usually covers contents only, so unless your truck was in a garage that is part of your unit, it probably isn't covered. Next, check your car insurance policy and see if theft is covered. If it is, then you need to call your insurance company and open a claim with them. Provide them the police report/incident number (because you did call the cops to report the break in of course). Generally, when the other party is known, they would also be responsible for your deductible. Otherwise, you open the claim, pay the deductible and they determine the damage based on the information you have (which you may or may not agree with). Once it's settled, they'll either directly pay the company who repairs the damage or send your a check to cover the damage.

Talk to your insurance agent.

Auto insurance does not cover personal items, so you need to file on your renters insurance. But, if you have comprehensive, and (if) the sound equipment/wolfers are part of your truck, then it might be covered under your auto insurance.
As for the deductible, it is applied after they calculate the amount of the loss. So, say for instance, the total cost to replace is $1,000, then they pay you $500.
Since you have an agent, then file and the agent will explain what proof you need on the stolen items.
