Is it the "due" date, or the "cancellation" date? If it's only the "due" date, you'll probably be fine, with no late fee, if you pay the day after it's "due". If it's the cancellation date - there's absolutely no leeway or grace period.

Yes you'll be charged a late fee. You'll be ok other than that if nothing hsppens during the day you're not insured.

Yes, there's usually 7-10 day grace period. Many car insurance carriers offer a grace period. Note that they are not all created equal so best to call your company and ask.

You could call them and explain the situation, then ask if you could send them a cheque that is postdated by 1 day.

You will only be OK if you do not have an accident on the one day. If you do have an accident on that day, you will not be insured. The insurance will automatically cancel at midnight on the expiration date and not get re instated until they have processed the payment and put the policy back. Use Uber until you get insurance, it will end up being a lot cheaper.
