Have you shopped for insurance in the last year? Auto insurance rates, and rates for some other insurance, can be influenced by your credit standing. If you have poor credit, an auto policy can cost you much more than it will someone with excellent credit. This also applies to interest rates for borrowing. You represent a greater risk so you pay more for insurance.
Therefore, if you are shopping for insurance and in the process, insurance companies ask you for identifying information, they may run a credit check - your permission is not needed - and this will generate a soft hit on your credit report. It will not impact your credit score, but these requests will show up on your report for a time, usually a year or less.

IDK, my credit report just lists the credit cards I've had, employers, and previous addresses. No insurance companies. If their names are on there, call them up and ask.
