I applied for bariatric surgery through my insurance almost a year ago to get approved for a referral to see a surgeon. It took longer than I thought so I assumed it was denied and forgot about it. I m 5 months pregnant now and they contacted me that I was approved to go through the process now but I can t because obviously I m pregnant. I am still interested in getting the surgery after I have my baby I just don t know if the approval stays or I have to wait another year and go through the process all over again. I should have asked the receptionist who called me. Does anyone have any information regarding this?

You have to get a newer referral.

You should not have asked the receptionist who called you. You do the right thing by not asking on the phone.
When you ask on the phone, they can guess without knowing or even lie and say whatever it takes to trick you into getting something that isn't covered by insurance so that you will have to pay for it yourself, using only your own money, without using insurance. This is also true if you ask anyone at the doctor's office anything about insurance.
If you want to be told the truth, then you must ask the insurance company and only in writing. If you ask the receptionist or the doctor or you ask anyone on the phone, then they don't have to tell you the truth.
