Certainly they may try to get you to renew. However, they are also trying to inform you of the legal consequences of not having insurance. You may still be under the grace period where they might cover you if you had a claim, as long as you pay the premium. They should also be sending you a notice by mail, which will tell you the effective date of cancellation.
If you do not intend to drive, then you MUST, by law, surrender your plates as soon as your coverage terminates. Your insurance company will also notify DMV that you have been terminated. You can still keep the vehicle. You just can't operate it on the streets or allow anyone else to. And you have no coverage and retain full financial liability for anything that happens with that vehicle. If someone steals it and has an accident with it, you are responsible.

Or even worse you are in a car accident and are not covered. Then you yell at your insurance agent for not calling you and warning you.

Simple, the Insurance Company must inform the MVD of your State when a Policy lapses. Your Agent contacts you to inform you that requirement, and it is a matter of courtesy to at least tell them you don't intend to drive your vehicle again.

Call them and cancel your policy and inform the DMV that your car is not in operation if you dont plan to drive it.

If there is a state required grace period on your account, even if it cancels, you might still owe money.
You should surrender the plates if you don't intend to use the vehicle. In multiple states, you can lose your license for having a registered vehicle that's uninsured...regardless of whether you are using it or not.

since you failed to notify them that you are no longer going to need insurance they are calling for payment to make sure you remain covered
if you don't plan to use the car again, you need to sell it, it still could be cause for some problems for you not being insured

Hopefully you don't have a loan on the car; otherwise, your bank will likely purchase insurance for you and bill you.

Because every new year all Changes In Health Insurance Policy For The New Year
Medical coverage is protection that covers the entire or a piece of the danger of a man causing therapeutic costs, spreading the hazard over an expansive number of people. By assessing the general danger of human services and wellbeing framework costs over the hazard pool, a safety net provider can build up a standard fund structure, for example, a month to month premium or finance impose, to give the cash to pay to the medicinal services benefits determined in the protection assertion. The advantage is controlled by a local association, for example, an administration organization, private business, or not-revenue driven substance. As indicated by the Health Insurance Association of America, medical coverage is characterized as “scope that accommodates the installments of advantages because of disorder or damage. It incorporates protection for misfortunes from mishap, medicinal cost, inability, or inadvertent passing and evisceration

In many states, you can't just let the car sit without insurance. You have to sell it, give it away, or keep paying for insurance. You aren't allowed to own a car without insurance.
Insurance doesn't always cancel the moment you stop paying. If you don't specifically tell them in advance to cancel the policy, they may renew it, and you have to pay.

If you don't pay, you don't have car insurance. If you don't pay, it will be VERY hard to get new insurance.

Did you formally cancel your policy? They are probably wondering what you are doing. It could just be a courtesy call to determine, for marketing purposes, why you are dropping your policy.
Also, do you still owe money on the car? If so, the insurance company would get involved, because the loan company/bank wants to ensure it is covered.

You need to cancel your insurance not just ignore it. Depending on where you are you might need to cancel the registration on your car.
