I needed a new asthma doc so I looked on my insurances website and found one that took my insurance so called my doc and got a referral there. I went there yesterday, it was an hour ride there on the bus with a super sore knee and crutches. I get to my appointment and check in and they said oh but we do not take your insurance. I said it is shown on my insurance companies website that a doctor here takes my insurance and they said we do not take your insurance in this county. I am on medical assistance. she said when your docs office called us they said what insurance u had but they did not tell us the plan so we had no idea that you were on medical assistance, she was like we take the regular part of your insurance company but we do not take medical assistance, so can pay out of pocket for todays service I said no thanks. so I hobble away to sit down for a few with my crutches pull up my insurance companies website get it up that there doctor takes my insurance and they sorry nothing we can do about it and said to bad so sad more or less. then I had to sit there in really bad pain for about 3 hours till my ride came back for me, I was really angry yesterday about this as they do not take my insurance even though my insurance company says they did. so I will call my insurance company on Monday and complain for sure, do I have a right to be mad here? i am still pissed at it as i really can't go back to my old doc and i need asthma help now

No. Rights are something that the government can't take away from you. You clearly misundertand what a right, is.
You are also on welfare - when you're on medical welfare, you have to tell the doctor office that. Many doctors who would take a brand name non-welfare plan, won't take the welfare plan.

Why were you b*tching at the doctor's office? They did not post on the website. You said it was the insurance company's website. They are the ones you should complain to if that is what you want to do. The doctor's office had NOTHING to do with it. Further, you should be checking with the doctor's office to make sure they accept your insurance. Websites may not be up to date and doctors can drop a plan any time they want to.

I'd be upset too, but here is the lesson to take away from this issue.
1. Always contact the doctor and your health insurer (in your case, welfare) to confirm that the plan you have is acceptable.
2. Don't trust the website that says right on there that the list is not definitive and providers are added and deleted all of the time.
3. Why do you need to change doctors for your asthma in the first place?

Unfortunately, it's just a learning experience. Insurance companies have many different plans. You can't just ask by the name of the insurance company. And, when you look on the website, it should differentiate which plan. I know on the United Healthcare website, they have probably more than 50 different networks listed. One of the longest lists I know of, so you could never call and say, "I have United Healthcare," because they might be an in-network provider for one or a few of the networks, but no doctor would be in all or likely even many of them.

One of the problems for enrollees with medicaid and other medical assistance programs is lack of choices.
You will have to contact your doctor to help you find another specialist if you need one.
"Do you have a right to be mad about yesterday?"
- sure, it's irritating
- It's a lesson learned - be sure to verify if they accept your medical program prior to making an appointment.
- Doesn't really make any sense to be mad - it is what it is...

I understand. I also know that websites are up online far past any update requirements. Found that out when I looked on our city's website for where it was OK to park during a snow emergency and got a ticket for being in the wrong area.
Calling ahead is adviseable now.

I'd be upset too, but I don't know who you can be mad at. It was an unfortunate misunderstanding. good luck.
