I was looking for a new lung doctor for my asthma, well I looked on my insurance companies website and found a new one and I called my fam doc and got the referral to go there. I set up the appointment for last Friday. I went to my appointment which was hard for me as I have a knee injury and am on crutches so I take the bus and go there crutches and all I hobble up to check in I give them my insurance and id card like they asked for, after looking at it for a few minutes she said oh we do not take your insurance. so I explained how I found this doc on my insurances website as taking my insurance and they said but we do not accept it here. so I hobbled away pulled up my insurances website and hobbled back up to window to show them and they said sorry nothing we can do you are out of luck. I asked my one support group about it and the one lady said that happened to her and she called her insurance company and they demanded the docs office see her since there doc was listed as taking her insurance so she told me to try that. should I call my insurance company and tell them what happened so that they know about it and see what they can do about it?

You are beating a dead horse here. Call your insurer and ask for the names of physicians who treat asthma, and then get a referral to see one of them. The one you chose does not take your insurance, nor are they required to accept your insurance. Move on.

Yes, contact the insurance provider and confirm that this doctor accepts the insurance.
If the doctor does, ask to file a grievance with the insurance company.
When you are done with that file a grievance with your State's insurance commissioner.

Call your insurance company and let them know this doctor does not accept your plan and they can override the computer system that is rejecting your insurance.

Typically you can still see them - it will just be “out of network”. You can then contact the insurance company and tell them what happened and ask them to reduce the amount you pay because of their error.
However, they will probably tell you that you should have called the doctor’s office to verify they accept your insurance. I’m also a bit surprised that they didn’t ask you for your insurance information when they set up the appointment.
