Annuities are the same as any insurance claim. It's the very first thing an insurance company is obligated to pay. If they start defaulting on claims they are out of business.

AIG has paid every claim and maintained every policy...which is part of why they were bailed out...

AIGs bankruptcy has nothing to do with the member investments.
Member investments are completely separate from the companies operating money.
