What do I do about my medical bill? (No insurance/broke as hell)?

I was at the emergency room originally as a guest visiting someone. When I suddenly fainted in the waiting room. I agreed to get checked out since I was under the impression my MediCal was still active. Few days pass and I received the bill and was notified that my MediCal insurance was terminated a few months back. So now it’s two week since I was in the hospital and I have a super expensive medical bill that I definitely cannot pay. What can I do? If I go to the MediCal office to seek coverage can they help me? Please help me I’m stressed out.

True story. Years ago, a friend of mine, had no health insurance and had to go to the ER (unknown) reason.
He got a bill for $2,000 and could not pay it. He contacted the hospital, who with (proof) of his (2) part time jobs verified his income. They (reduced) his bill to $200 that he paid.
So, you must contact them to see (if) they will reduce the bill, or if not, then they will usually allow you to pay it back in payments. If in fact you have no income or very little, they (might) allow it on a charity program.
But, either way, do not ignore it, since they will send it to collections, so contact them to see (if) they will work with you.

You shouldnt have stayed in the ER but gone to an Urgent Care clinic or county clinic instead. Do you think we believe you that your Medi-Cal was active? We know thats a baloney story. You have to make payment arrangements with the hospital. If you have any income at all, use that. Stress is a part of life, kid.

Ask for a payment plan...consider bankruptcy...

Medi-cal will not provide back coverage in a situation like yours.
What do you do?
- ask the hospital if they have a charity care program
- ask the hospital is they have a payment plan
- some hospitals will significantly reduce the bill if paid quickly (30 days)... figure out how to pay the bill that quickly.
