I applied for medi-cal on February 1st 2019 so Medi-Cal can write off my medical bill but I was denied because I make over the income limit which is $1, 369 a month. I was told by a medi-cal social worker that they can only go back 3 months from when I was admitted in the hospital to write off my medical bills. After 3 months the so after March 2019 they won't be able to help me write off the medical bill . So my question is is that true of what the medi-cal social worker had told me?

They dont write-off y our bill. They pay your bills if they are within 90 days of your application. The income limit in California for a single person is $16,395 annually. They are using an old formula that is not up to date. Some counties will make you eligible if you buy vision or dental insurance.

They can only go back 3 months to pay or reimburse you for medical bills. Anything that you owed prior to that is on you.

Medi-cal can go back 3 months to pay the bill, if you had a medical emergency. Medi-cal will only pay if you were at a facility that accepts medi-cal.
If you don't have a medical emergency, they won't go back at all.
There is no way that you can play the system - stop working and the say "hey, I don't make $1400, so I qualify now. Please pay my bills". Medi-cal looks at your income over a period of time.
You need to work with the hospital you were at:
- apply for their charity care program
- make a payment plan
